In 1959, Thomas Archdeacon, who was the industrial arts teacher at Ottoville High School, and his wife Agnes, an English teacher, purchased this business from the Hixon Peterson Lumber Company. Hixon Peterson was a chain lumber dealer operating out of Toledo, Ohio, and they owned many smaller lumber yards. For several summers, Tom worked for the lumber yard when on vacation from his teaching position. In 1959, Hixon Peterson decided to sell off some of their smaller lumber yards. At this time, Tom quit his teaching job, purchased the lumber yard, bought all of the inventory from the Hixon Peterson yard in Continental, Ohio, and renamed the local yard The Ottoville Lumber Company.
Tom and Agnes owned this business until Tom's death in May of 1993, at which time the manager (and son-in-law) Bill Looser, Jr. and his wife Cathy took over the operations. Bill and Cathy Looser then merged their business, Custom Moulding, with the Ottoville Lumber Company.
